Organizational ombuds professionals work in all types of organizations. Ombuds advocate for the principles of fairness and equity in solving disputes within a given organization, and they do not represent any side in a dispute. Ombuds also work as a change agents within an organization. This course will provide a thorough introduction to the ombuds profession, including the history, theory, and benefits of the different types of ombuds roles. Students also will have the opportunity to develop ombuds skills, including: active listening, appropriate questioning, clarifying, generating options, negotiation, and shuttle diplomacy.
