This is an advanced, discussion-based seminar that engages various documents and expressions of Black thought and art in response to law and sociolegal phenomena. This course is collaborative in nature and engages in close readings of art, critical theory, current and historical events in order to better understand how Black people within the United States have struggled for racial legal justice. Students will be responsible for presenting the assigned readings in class with their critical analysis, while also responding to the written and verbal critiques and critical questions of their peers. This is a paper course, and students should be prepared to write a final critical, analytical reflection paper based on original and established theories and frameworks. Students are expected to act as collaborative and individual scholars. Grading: Letter Credits: Variable Offered: Spring
