In Comparative Criminal Trial Practice: From the Classroom to the Courtroom – Barristers, Trial Lawyers, Judges, Jurors and Trials, students will work with British and US criminal trial lawyers and judges to explore the similarities and differences in the training of trial lawyers and judges. Students will analyze the practice, strategy and tactics of criminal trials from the British and US perspectives. The course will conclude in a jury trial during which the students will sit as jurors in a trial conducted by a British Barrister and a US trial lawyer. Topics include:• Regulating the law schools and the Inns of Court• Getting admitted the Practice of Law in the US and Britain• Trial practice, rules, strategies and tactics• How people are charged with crimes and the court process• Jurors• The Role of the prosecutor (Crown Council) and the defense attorney• The Role of judges• Decorum in the courtroom• Dressing for success: wigs and gowns• Getting paid Grading: Credits: 2 Offered: Summer
