Externship: Legislative & Lobbying30631 3.00HilstromMon06:00 PM07:55 PM22001/19/2025The Legislative calendar is such that students must be prepared to allocate multi-hour blocks of time for fieldwork during mid-week; Mondays and Fridays are travel days or in-district days for legislators resulting in limited fieldwork at the Capitol or with a mentor on those days. The 2023 Legislative Session begins in early February meaning students must plan to secure the majority of hours in roughly two months.

To facilitate placement, students must provide the professor with a copy of their resume and preferences for placement (e.g. state agency, legislator, law firm lobbying practice, trade association or other non-profit).

Self-selected placements are possible for students with connections at the Minnesota Capitol or within the lobbying community but must be coordinated with the adjunct professor and be consistent with the law school's requirements. Students must communicate with the adjunct professor regarding self-placement options prior to the start of the semester to avoid duplicate placements.

Students may register for 1-4 credits.
